Brechin pupils attend driving workshop

Brechin High School held a number of workshops as part of the Driving Ambition initiative.
The initiative, launched in 2008, aims to give students the opportunity to gain a better understanding of safe and unsafe road practices.
As part of the initiative sixth year pupils delivered a variety of topics centred around the early years of driving.
These included inputs from road safety officer Wanda Gove, Brechin community liaison officer PC Billy Rattray, drug and alcohol worker PC Arlene Munro, Tayside fire safety officer Garry Brown, PC Kim Samson from the Force’s road policing unit and representatives from Tayside Safety Camera Partnership.
This initiative is run as a follow on to the hard hitting ‘Safe Drive Stay Alive’ presentation given at S5 level and is designed to promote safer and more responsible driving among young drivers in the Angus area.
PC Rattray said: “We are acutely aware of the image that young drivers have in the town and whilst we continue to combat this through enforcing Anti Social Behaviour legislation, it is important to have an early intervention package in place to educate young people who are soon to start driving.
“It is hoped in future that this will have a positive impact on the driving behaviour of young people in Brechin and beyond.”
