High hopes new councillor will stay true to voters
Sir, I don't see why ex-councillor Mowatt should refer to me as her most fervent critic.
I do, however, admit to a passion and energy that has been directed at the countless injustices that have befallen Brechin over the years; my overwhelming feelings of frustration best summed up by quoting William Low's comments of a few years ago "every step we take forward, this council takes two back."
Joy Mowatt talks of courage yet she couldn't muster the courage to answer the many questions that have publicly been asked of her nor could she find the grace to apologise for her many past misgivings.
The heading to her letter "You don't need to be a councillor to work for town" a poignant reminder that it is often the case that it is the public who are the most effective and not the elected paid members!
Joy Mowatt's questionable remarks in last week's Brechiner a further reminder why the most important critic of all delivered the verdict that it did.
I can relate to Councillor Evans having been thrown in at the deep end, same age, different city, different circumstance and much earlier era.
I congratulate her on the success of her election and hope that, being true to the electorate, takes precedence over that SNP baton that Joy Mowatt is so keen to pass on!
Yours etc.,
John Ritchie,
Latch Road,
Brechin.
