Honk is back!
Sir, The 'Honk' is back! Once again the streets of Brechin are being polluted by the smell of burning animals from the Sacone plant.
Despite warning after warning from SEPA, court appearances, and a petition to the Scottish Parliament the problem persists.
Time after time we have been told that a door had been left open or a workman had been careless, to the extent that such excuses no longer hold water.
We do not imagine this sickening smell, it is there constantly, and everywhere in the city, from Brechin Castle to the Bridge of Dun and it deprives us of the pleasure of sitting in and enjoying our own gardens.
Over 1200 people signed the petition which went to Parliament, against this pollution, they can't all be wrong!
It would be unfair to put all the blame on SEPA for this ongoing problem, as time after time they have reported the lapses made by Sacone, but are bound by red tape and long drawn out investigations.
The office based in Arbroath has been particularly helpful, listing and recording the many complaints received and visiting the plant at all hours and often without warning, and even speaking personally to some of the complainants in their own homes and experiencing the odious smells for themselves. They have really worked hard on our behalf.
It appears now that as there is no obvious improvement and the smells continue, the people of Brechin must stand together, use people power, and protest as one, to the Sacone plant. We need positive action now.
Yours etc.,
Joe Monro,
Middleton Park,
Brechin.
