A HEALTHY start in life is important for every child and at The Healthy Start Café in Brechin on Thursday, seven mums were able to hear about the benefits of Healthy Start vitamins.
The free Healthy Start Café is part of Angus Community Health Partnership’s Healthy Happy Communities Project and is held in Cathedral Hall, Brechin, every Thursday between 11.30 a.m., and 1.30 p.m., (during term-time).
The group aims to provide a comfortable, relaxed and informal environment for pregnant women and parents with babies.
During last week’s session advice was given on Healthy Start Vitamins.
Women who are pregnant or have children under the age of four could qualify for free Healthy Start vitamins and vouchers.
The vouchers are worth £3.10 per week and can be spent on milk and fresh or frozen fruit and vegetables.
Parents qualify if they are in receipt of certain benefits and have an income of £16,190 or less in 2012/13.
Applying for Healthy Start is easy. Information leaflets explaining the qualifying criteria are available at all Angus Council Access Offices.
These leaflets also have application forms attached at the back of each booklet.
Once the application form has been completed and returned vouchers and green Healthy Start vitamin coupons will be sent to your home if you are entitled to them.
These vouchers can be spent in most supermarkets and the Healthy Start coupons can be exchanged for vitamins at all Access Offices and at many community pharmacies.
Healthy Start Vitamins Information booklets can also be obtained by contacting Shona Burge on 01307 474872 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Brechin’s Healthy Start Cafe opened in Brechin in June 2012.
From the minute they discover they are pregnant, women are welcome to come along to the café which provides a comfortable space where they can chat together and share their experiences.
This free café is open to families, partners, friends, babies and older children are welcome.
