Recycling talks for businesses

Angus Council is alerting businesses to forthcoming legislation which requires them to separate out their waste card, plastics, metal and glass for recycling and will also compel some businesses to separate their food waste.

The legislation comes into effect in January 2014 and will affect businesses of all sizes, across all sectors, as Scotland embarks on an ambitious strategy to make the most of its resources by maximising the value of waste materials and minimising their environmental impact. The regulations contribute to the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan which aims to create green jobs and benefit the economy by around £175 million.

To assist businesses in dealing with the new requirements, Zero Waste Scotland is promoting free briefings across the country, including a session in Arbroath on March 19.

The briefings, to be delivered by a team of experts, will cover the legal requirements, what support is available and how effective waste management and resource efficiency can benefit businesses and organisations.

For further details, or to book a place, email regulationbriefings@zerowastescotland.org.uk or contact the council’s waste management service via ACCESSLine 08452 777 778 or email accessline@angus.gov.uk
