Veterans' apologies

Sir, The Veterans would like to apologise to the people who turned up at the unveiling of the memorial on Sunday past and were left standing about for the dedication.

It was no fault of the veterans as, up to then, we thought everything was taken care of. But it was not to be - "the best laid schemes".

However, after a few inquiries it was apparent that no-one was responsible or to take the blame, except the poor gent at the end of the phone. As usual no-one wanted to know or should I say "it wisnae me".

No wonder after all these years and "promises, promises, promises" we veterans are very disillusioned, but not dismayed.

But we thank them that did turn up to honour us and make the most of a very successful day and occasion.

Thank you all,

O. Gallacio,

Chairman,

85 Branch, Normandy Veterans Association.
