THE PROSPECTS of viewers in remote areas of Angus, especially the glens, of getting better television reception on 625 lines, were not good, Mr George Steel, told Brechin Rotary Club last week.

He based his view on the fact that the Government was unlikely to take serious steps to improve reception because of decreasing population.

He did not think there would be many technical changes in the broadcasting system in the next 10 years which was a good thing as manufacturers now had difficulty in keeping pace with demands for sets, especially colour.

Mr Steel, who is a member of the Rotary Club, said servicing was becoming more and more difficult as sets grew more complex.

Angus District Council Planning Committee discussed whether it was their responsibility to maintain a right-of-way at Edzell. The right-of-way is the path from Dunlappie Road which crosses a burn by means of a footbridge and ends at Dalhousie Street.

The path has been used for many years by people on foot but the footbridge had never been maintained either by the County District or by the old Brechin District Council. The parish council might have been responsible for its maintenance, it was stated.

Mr W. Ferguson, director of planning, said that Inveresk Community Council might have a good case to argue over why the footbridge should be repaired but it was still up to the Council to decide whether this was necessary.

Brechin former Valley textile works on River Street will soon be serving a new purpose.

There are plans afoot to develop the former factory in to several different housing types.

A spokesman for Angus Council told the “Brechiner” about their hopes for the housing. He said: “It is early days to be saying what type of housing will be up. We are hoping there will be a mixture of extra care housing, sheltered housing, special needs and general needs.
