IN A RECENT report on car parking facilities in Brechin, Mr P. Kemp Burt suggested the construction of five new car parks in the centre of the town to take a total of 280 cars and costing approximately £9,300 (excluding the cost of site acquisition and clearance).
Mr Burt suggested the following areas for consideration as possible car park sites.
1. Area bounded by Maisondieu Lane, Market Street, gardens of St David Street properties and R.C. Chapel; 2. Area bounded by Market Street, furniture stores, Cross Guns Close and Lindsay Lane; 3. Area bounded by City Road, gardens of Union Street properties and gardens of Damacre Road properties; 4. 33-39 Market Street, 2 Maisondieu Lane and air raid shelter site; 5. 16-20 Market Street; 6. 5-21 Church Street.

Bailie McKenzie said that it had been suggested to him that some of the money from the Common Good Fund could be used to mechanise the Cathedral bell as it had become increasingly difficult to get anyone to ring the nightly curfew.
IT IS proposed to erect a communal incinerator at Leysmill and the County Council has asked the Town Council to consider delegating regard to the disposal of scavenging.
HOUSEHOLDERS living in High Street, Edzell have a common complaint during the tourist season.
The trouble is visitors knocking at their doors asking if they can “spend a penny” as they cannot find the public lavatory.
The point was raised by Dr W. J. Dally at last week’s meeting of Edzell Village Improvement Society, when the chairman, Mr J. B. Craig asked is a second lavatory was necessary.

THE SCOTCH whisky industry, already badly hit by worldwide fall in demand, was dealt another crippling blow on Thursday when Distillers Company, one of Scotland’s largest companies, announced a series of closers and cuts including the closure of Brechin’s North Port Distillery.
The distillery has a workforce of 14.
