Balhousie care group to award the best of the best

Leading care provider Balhousie Care Group is to recognise its outstanding nurses, best care assistants, top homes and unsung heroes at its inaugural awards dinner for staff.

Residents, relatives and staff at homes across the country, including Balhousie’s care home in Edzell, The Glens, have been asked to nominate the people they feel deserve special praise.

The Balhousie Care Group Best of the Best awards dinner will be held this Friday (October 5) at the Invercarse Hotel in Dundee, when the winners of the six categories will be announced.

Prizes will be given for Best Manager, Best Newcomer, Best Ambassador, Best Care Home, Best Team Player and Outstanding Contribution, with the winner being chosen from three finalists in each category.

Resident Stephen Watson, who lives at Balhousie’s Dalguise Centre in Balbeggie, is among the panel of judges, which also includes Balhousie directors Scott Whittet and Stuart Storrie, non-executive director Ross Smith and Tony Banks, chairman and founder of Balhousie Care Group.

Tony, who will present the awards, said: “We are pleased to be holding our first Best of the Best awards dinner to recognise the hard work and commitment of our staff. We know that care is not simply a job but a vocation and Balhousie Care Group is only as good as our people.

“We couldn’t function without our team of care, domestic, operational and support staff so this is to thank them for the special effort they make every day to make sure our residents are well cared for, and to highlight those who regularly go above and beyond the call of duty.

“It was also important to us that residents and their relatives were involved in the nomination and judging process as their feedback is vital.”

Tony added: “I’d like to wish all the finalists the best of luck for the ceremony on Friday.”

Guests will enjoy a sparkling wine reception followed by a three-course meal, the awards ceremony and then a disco, hosted by Tay FM DJ Stuart Webster, who is the MC for the night.

Since the opening of the first home, Balhousie Lisden Care Home in Kirriemuir, the group has grown through acquisition and new builds to 26 homes, bringing the residential capacity to more than 900 across Perthshire, Dundee, Fife, Angus and Aberdeenshire.

A brand new home at St Ronan’s in Dundee and a further home at Huntly, which due to be completed later this year, as well as the rebuilding of Monkbarns care home in Arbroath will take the total capacity to around 1,100 residents.
