Council to adopt ‘The Banks’?

ANGUS Council look set to adopt local road ‘The Banks’ to allow it to be upgraded and access to the new community campus being made.

Although the roads authority would not normally adopt a road which is not already at an acceptable standard, it is proposed that The Banks is adopted and upgrading carried out as part of the community campus project.

In a joint report to council officers by the director of infrastructure services, Eric Lowson, and the director of education, Neil Logue, it is stated: “The principles of an agreement have been established with the owners of the properties to the north of the existing school that any rights which they have over the existing school site will be discharged subject to an alternative access being made along The Banks, Brechin.

“To achieve this it is appropriate that the road will be brought up to the standard required by the Roads Authority.

“The adoption is necessary to allow the school project to progress in its current form and therefore adoption is considered appropriate in these exceptional circumstances.

“However, the cost of the works will be carried out as part of the site development and adoption will not take place until the day upon which the contractor takes possession of the site.”

The infrastructure services committee met to discuss the adoption of The Banks as the Brechin Advertiser went to print on Tuesday, March 5.
