Will Aid returns

Local solicitors are set to make a big impact on the problems caused by people dying without a will by offering to write wills during November without charging their normal fee.

All that they ask in return is that you consider making a donation to Will Aid. This simple scheme allows you to get your affairs in order and help people in need around the world at the same time. The suggested minimum donation is £90 for a single will, £135 for mirror wills or £40 for a codicil or change to a previous will.

The money raised is shared by nine UK charities that carry out life changing work here in the UK and around the world, including Age UK, Christian Aid and Save the Children.

Do you really know what would happen to your hard earned money, house or possessions if you died tomorrow without a will or if it could not be found? Well, your property will be distributed under the laws of intestacy.

This may mean that the people you wanted to benefit might not do so and but it can also bring your loved ones additional stress and heartache sorting out the mess at a time when they are least equipped to cope.

An out-of-date will may prove equally problematic. People named as executors may have died; beneficiaries may have moved and be very difficult to trace; family circumstances may have changed dramatically.

There may have been births, deaths, marriages, separations and divorces, all of which may have an impact on the contents of a will and some of which can affect its validity.

So make sure you don’t miss this opportunity to get an affordable will drawn up or updated by an expert. Call a participating solicitor as soon as you can.

Demand for Will Aid is bound to be high and you need to book your appointment for November as early as possible to ensure that you can take part in the scheme.

The local participants in Brechin are Mr Gair Couston at Shiells, 31a St David Street. He can be contacted on 01356 622171. A full list of participating solicitors can be found at www.willaid.org.uk.
