Innovative approach

ANGUS Council’s education committee, last week, heard details of an innovative approach to ensure pupils enjoy a happy, fulfilling and safe school experience.

The committee heard that the development of restorative approaches in Angus schools is making a positive impact.

Welcoming the report, committee convener Sheena Welsh said: “In Angus we are committed to ensuing positive day to day interactions and relationships between children, young people and staff.

“The development of restorative approaches in Angus schools is contributing positively to improvements in the quality of relationships, and the behaviour of children and young people who are most vulnerable and at risk of being excluded from school.

“Developing positive relationships within schools is key to narrowing the achievement gap and supporting all children to achieve their full potential.”

The committee heard that an initial training programme has taken place in the Montrose and Arbroath North school clusters, and it is hoped to roll out the training to a further three school clusters during session 2012-13.
