Worldskills UK final for Brechin student
WorldSkills UK Skills Show Welding
Apprentice welder and Angus College student Gordon MacAulay, who hails from Brechin, recently competed in the Skills Show at the NEC Birmingham.
The three-day event was the culmination of many Worldskills UK Skills competitions, awards and activities, providing a platform for the best of the nation’s young talent to perform.
It also provides opportunities for visitors to have a go at new skills, get careers advice and access apprenticeships and real job opportunities.
Gordon, who is an apprentice with Ian Brown Engineering, earned his place in the Birmingham welding final after winning the regional heat held at Angus College earlier this year and, although he unfortunately didn’t win the competition, he was delighted to be the only person competing from Scotland in this section.
Gordon said: “Despite losing out on the top spots I was really pleased to be the only person from Scotland asked down.
“I am keen to be the best at welding and I am always looking for opportunities like these to help me better my skills”.
Angus College engineering curriculum manager Jim Stewart said: “We are all very pleased with Gordon’s success.
“It was great to have a student representing Angus College in this competition. Gordon is a very talented young apprentice who will go far in his chosen career.”
