THE HM Frigate Unicorn in Dundee is the ideal location for a production of Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Gondoliers" this week. Performances will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 18, 19 and 20.
Tickets are £7 (concessions £6) and all funds raised by the production will go towards the preservation of Unicorn, now the sixth oldest ship in the world.

A talented ensemble, including members of Broughty Ferry Operatic Society and friends will
be performing "The Gondoliers" under the direction of James Tonner.

The Dundee Instrumental Band will start the evening off with a thirty-minute performance before "The Gondoliers" begins. The Dundee Instrumental Band is the successor of the RNVR band, founded onboard HMS Unicorn in 1907 and has a long history of supporting Unicorn, playing in many fundraisers and events over the years.

"The Gondoliers" was first performed in London in 1889 when HMS Unicorn was a spritely 65 years old.

Unicorn has aged a little since then, but even at 185 years old she is still considered to be the most original of all ships surviving in the world from the great age of sail.

Located at Victoria Docks in Dundee there could not be a more appropriate or special venue for "The Gondoliers".

Roderick Stewart, HM Frigate unicorn operations director said: "This will be the fourth in Jimmy Tonner's brilliant series of Gilbert and Sullivan onboard, and each has been even better than the last.

"An evening aboard Unicorn for one of these performances will be fun, enjoyable and very memorable. Like any old lady, Unicorn appreciates a bit of attention and we greatly look forward to welcoming old friends and new visitors onboard."
