A NEW school year sees the launch of monthly live music events for under-18s in The Plough Inn, Forfar.
This Friday sees the first local date for new but highly rated Forfar band The Standard and a welcome return of The White Light, fresh from their Edinburgh Festival performance in front of Mercury record company executives.

Instead of the usual club/disco, the Plough is delighted to welcome top covers band General Franco for a full set of contemporary hits from the likes of The Killers, The Kooks, KT Tunstall or Kaiser Chiefs.

The Standard are made up of Callum 'Coco' Cochrane on vocals, Fraser Stewart on lead guitar, Adam 'Reebs' Robertson on rythmn guitar, Craig "Stox" Kydd on bass guitar and Jamie 'Jeem' Allan on drums.

Though only aged 17, they have started gigging round the Dundee music scene and have just released the six-track EP - "Only For Everyone".

The White Light took a coach load of fans from Forfar to Edinburgh on Sunday for a gig arranged by Mercury Records in The Three Sisters on the Cowgate, right in the middle of Edinburgh's Festival venues.

A packed audience saw them perform with a new confidence and stage presence, and an appreciative crowd cheered them through their fast-paced indie rock set.

Carnoustie based General Franco are one of the most sought after covers bands in Scotland and are able to drive out two hours of current rock and Indie favourites. The band are doing this gig for the U-18s as reward for headlining the over-18 Forfar Rocks! event in September.

The regular events now have their own website - www.bebo.com/ploughU18 and anyone joining as a member gets two free soft drinks on Friday. Doors open at 6.45 pm and the show goes on until 10.45 pm. Admission is £5.
