Staff of the enlisted mess at the US Navy Base at Edzell saved their tips to present a gift to the head chef, Mrs Helen Massie, to mark her retirement after 18 years. She also received a letter of commendation and a certificate from the Base and a gift certificate from the enlisted men’s club. These presentations were made by Captain Isaiah C. Cole, commanding office and his executive officer, Commander Richard Wilhelm.
June was a busy month at Edzell’s ‘Chop and Change’ shop - the proceeds for the month totalled £1350 and this has been used to send goods to Poland. Nearly £1000 of basic medical supplies, including dressings and vitamin tablets, baby cream and baby milk were made ready at the start of the moth.
