Edzell has won the Bruce Trophy for best kept large village in Scotland in this year’s “Britain in Bloom” competition. They were runners-up in last year. Edzell’s success is described as being due to a combined effort by villagers looking after their own gardens and Angus District Council in maintaining public areas.

Professor A. T. Florence, son of Mr A. Florence, chemist, High Street, Edzell, and Mrs Florence, Newlands, Northesk Road, Edzell, who holds the chair of the Department of Pharmacy at Strathclyde University, has received the degree of Doctor of Science for work on surface and colloid chemical approached to pharmaceutical systems.
