Even in its heyday Brechin railway station is unlikely to have been as busy as on Saturday when the Santa Special arrived at platform one. Having built up a decent head of steam, Santa brought the train into the station, where hundreds of children, mums and dads packed the platform to take part in Brechin railway Preservation Society’s novel fund-raising effort. An 0-4-0 saddle tank, with two coaches and Santa as host, made a series of short runs out of the station, during which refreshment and snacks were served and presents distributed. The society reckon they have raised about £800.
The silver cup warded by the City of Brechin Civic Trust in their first photographic competition was won by Robert Thomson.
