By last Tuesday there was a level of 18 inches of snow in Edzell, considerably more than most residents could recollect. The roofs of the showroom at Glenesk Garage in the village collapsed on Tuesday through the sheer weight of snow. In Glenesk, conditions were even worse, with the upper reaches of the glen completely cut off. Frequent blizzards had struck the area and the wind had whipped up huge snowdrifts that were 10 or 12 feet high.
Regional and district councillors were left in no doubt on Monday night that the Brechin Community Council is dissatisfied with the snow clearing programme. On hearing their complaints, councillor Wallace Thom said the programme had “failed miserably.”
