To mark 21 years of pony-trekking in Scotland a party of 24 riders on Saturday covered the 16 mile journey from Ballater, via Mt. Keen to Glenesk. This was the same route Queen Victoria rode on September 20, 1861, when, accompanied by the Prince Consort and two of their daughters, and five ghilles, she made “an expedition into the Highlands” riding over the hills from Deeside to Glenesk. It was fitting, therefore that on Saturday the trek should have been sent on its way by Queen Victoria’s great-great-great granddaughter, Princess Anne.

At the Cross last Saturday, Brechin firemen had no need to solicit support from the shopping crowd. Altogether £76.60 was collected for the Fire Services Benevolent Fund Orphans Flag Day.
