Football: Airdrie 8, Brechin City 0. The New Year promise of better things faded at Broomfield Park on Saturday when City got their biggest licking at the hands of the league leaders. Airdrie, incidentally, are Scotland’s highest scoring team. The game showed only too clearly the difference in standards between the two ends of the League.
Football: Carnoustie 1, Brechin Vics 2. Carnoustie seemed to have this Midlands League game at Westfield Park in their pocket. They had 75 per cent of the play but lost to Vics by the odd goal in three. This in spite of the fact that Brechin finished the game with nine men. Goalkeeper Gilles had to leave the field with a broken finger, and Ferris was ordered off.
