Millar Square (after the Provost), Mitchell Square (after the former civic chief who remembered Brechin so generously in his will) were suggested as names for the Westwood housing scheme, but after some discussion it was agreed to keep the familiar ‘Westwood’ - as Councillor Mrs Hogg said: “It sounds better”, and in the words of Treasurer Howe, “whatever you call it, it will always be Westwood.”

It has been sad news for many Brechiners of the older generation - some abroad, to learn that the City Mission has closed down, through lack of support: they will think back to many happy evenings in the Mission hall at Southesk Terrace.
