Bowls: On Saturday Brechin bowlers made history in the Scottish Public Bowling Clubs Association by being the youngest team ever to win the fours title. The rink, Charlie Duncan, Robert McNeil, Les Sim and George Fitchet (skip), has an average age of 29.
The championship was played on Langlands Green, Govan. In the semi-final Brechin beat Ayr Northfield by 19 shots to nine. Brechin went on to win the title against hot favourites Grangemouth by 15 shots to six.

Golf: Miss Joan Lawrence, of Dunfermline, Scottish champion, won the Brechin ladies’ golf tournament for the third successive year on Saturday. Returning 75, she was six strokes ahead of runner-up Miss J. Bald, of Aberdour.
