The Town Council on Monday, the “long awaited night of decisions”, Bailie Mckenzie called it, decided by one vote to go ahead with the building of a swimming pool in the public park. It is estimated to cost £50,000. The council accepted in principle the report of Bailie McKenzie and Treasurer Howe who had gone into the whole question of providing a public swimming pool in Brechin with great thoroughness.

The council are to get facts and figures with regard to the possibility of converting the Temperance Hall into a modern type of Club before deciding whether or not to purchase the Hall and adjoining four houses. If the hall could not be adapted as a youth centre it would be a complete liability. They already had two halls the Provost said.
