After nearly two hours of discussion on Monday night the Town Council decided by seven votes to six to hold a plebiscite on what Provost Millar called the “extremely controversial” question of a swimming pool. The plebiscite is estimated to cost at least £70. Nearly 3,000 forms will go out giving ratepayers information with regards to the estimated losses and the charge on the rates which would incurred by a pool based on a capital cost of £60,000. Ratepayers will be asked to vote for or against the provision of a pool.
