Invited by the Town Council to express their views as to whether a swimming pool should be provided, the ratepayers of Brechin, by a large majority, have voted against the proposal. The number of ratepayers in favour of a pool was 570; the number not in favour was 1488.

For the residents of St Drostan’s House there was a surprise treat on Friday night when they had a visit from Johnny Mearns, the well-know TV compere of ‘Ingle Neuk’, accompanied by Dave McIntosh, singer in ‘Calum’s Ceilidh’, and Jack Sinclair, bandleader. They entertained residents for over an hour, supported by two Brechin ladies, Mrs G. Taylor, who gave Scottish recitations, and her daughter Miss Irene Taylor, who sang.
