President Jessie Rennie welcomed members to the second Acorn Club meeting of 2014 and introduced Geoff Rose who was to talk about ‘Talking Newspapers’.
This turned out to be a most interesting topic and revealed how important this service was to the many blind and partially sighted people who used it.
The newspapers are an entirely separate function to ‘Talking Books’. Geoff had some of the equipment necessary to provide the talking newspapers and explained how it worked.
There are five different newspapers available each month and at present the membership stands at at over 100 regular users.
Funds are very welcome as the cost of replacing equipment can be quite expensive. Isobel Shearer gave the vote of thanks.
