THE ACORN Club presented Angus Talking Newspapers with a cheque for £200 at their annual general meeting (AGM) held on April 10 at the Damacre Centre, Brechin.
Angus Talking Newspapers is a charitable organisation, that is run entirely by volunteers. It was founded in 1982 and the service has been operational ever since.
The charity provide local news in audio form for those who are registered blind and partially sighted, with service users receiving their CD free of charge every month.
The charity has teams covering Arbroath, Brechin/Edzell, Forfar/Kirriemuir, Carnoustie/Monifieth and Montrose.
During the club’s AGM, new office-bearers and a new committee were elected. The office bearers are as follows:-
President - Jessie Rennie;
Vice President - Isobel Shearer;
Joint Treasurers - Margaret McMillan and Minnie Thomson;
Secretary - Wilma Smith
Assistant secretary - Anne Mitchell.
The members of the new committee are Mary Henderson, Aileen Easton, Anne Haughs, Barbara Gaudie and Anne Wishart.
Afternoon tea, which had been prepared by the previous committee, was then served after the committee and office bearers had been elected. Jan Gillespie entertained the ladies on the keyboard.
