Angus actors encouraged to sign up for theatre festival

Scottish Youth Theatre is seeking budding actors and technicians aged 8-25 across Scotland to take part in Summer Festival 2013.

The event brings together young drama enthusiasts across the country to take part in courses ranging from one to six weeks, from performing arts to technical production.

Rosy Duncan (18), from Kirriemuir, has taken part in previous Summer Festivals. She said: “Summer Festival is an exciting experience that challenges your abilities and determination whilst allowing you to learn in a safe environment. Even though it is hard work, it’s amazing fun and the friends you meet, you’ll have for life.”

Rosy credits Scottish Youth Theatre and Summer Festival for her current studies at university. She continued: “I started by doing a two week course in 2008 and have never wanted to leave since. Without this experience, I wouldn’t be studying theatre at Lancaster University now.”

Summer Festival hosts courses ranging from one week to six weeks. The six week Performance and Production Learning Programme offers young people the opportunity to gain a qualification upon completion of the course, which is SQA credit rated, sitting between the Higher/Advanced Higher level on the SCQF at level seven with 29 credit points.

Rosy added: “I would definitely recommend it to people in the Angus and surrounding areas because it’s a good chance to get to stay in a city over the holidays whilst doing an exciting course.”
