ANGUS FOLK ALL SET TO WELCOME BRENDAN
KIRRIEMUIR-BASED Angus Folk are preparing to welcome Brendan Taaffe as a guest tutor for an evening workshop on Tuesday, February 16 in Kirriemuir Old Parish Church Hall.
Brendan is based in Vermont and focuses on traditional American harmony music; bluegrass, gospel, shape note, and Appalachian material.
There will be an extended class from 7 pm to 10 pm with a shared supper included in the evening.
The class is open to everyone - Angus Folk members and the general public.
Brendan explains his singing workshops are open to everyone.
"I make sure to teach in such a way that the material is accessible to all, regardless of musical background.
"I teach mostly from the "American Vernacular" - shape note hymns, Appalachian ballads, gospel quartets, and such.
"I find these songs to be deeply engaging, fun to sing, and think they show a far-more varied and interesting America than the one most often portrayed to the world.
"I also have an abiding interest in the harmony of sub-Saharan Africa, and use a liberal sprinkling of my own compositions and arrangements."
The workshop will cost 5 (4 concessions).
