MUSICAL FUSION OF 'TRAD-ROCK'

ONCE described as "six of the best musical ambassadors Scotland could have ever wished for," Skerryvore are sure to cause quite a stir when they visit Montrose this April.

Renowned for blazing bagpipes, fiddle and accordions, fused electronically with funky rhythms and soul gripping songs, the award winning band from Scotland's Inner Hebrides have been credited with creating a 'trad-rock' fusion for the 21st Century.

So they're sure to cause quite a fuss when they play at the Town Hall on April 17 in a gig organised by Montrose's J and N Promotions.

From traditional roots, Skerryvore have developed both in size and sound to create a unique fusion of their traditional music and songs with the urban sounds of rock and funk. With their outstanding musicianship and the mesmerising voice of singer Alec Dalglish, Skerryvore have gripped audiences across the world from Chicago to Beijing.

They have also been the highlight of many big festivals, home and abroad, including MagiaCeltica in Italy, Celtic Connections in Scotland, Celtic Crackers in the Netherlands – even a blistering performance at Scotland's Premier rock festival 'T in the Park' in July 2009.

The group will be supported by local group Heidrum, who have built a strong following across the length and breadth of Scotland for their lively and unforgettable shows.

From celtic to folk, roots to bluegrass and even from jigs to ballads, the band play almost anything that lends itself to acoustic music. Some polished three part harmonies add to the diversity of instruments the band have in their repertoire, including guitars, bass, fiddle, bodhran, bouzouki, banjo, accordion, djembe and even the pipes.

With the gig likely to be popular, a spokesperson for J and N Promotions urged people not to delay when securing tickets.

Tickets for the gig are available from the Black Abbot in Coronation Way, Montrose, or from Hogg's the Newsagent, Montrose High Street.

For more information, phone Nomie Braes at the Black Abbot on 01674 676739.
