NEW SEASON AT MONTROSE FOLK CLUB OPENS WITH THE BEVVY SISTERS

THE new season at Montrose Folk Club, after the summer break, begins on Tuesday, August 10 in the usual venue of the Links Hotel, Mid-Links, Montrose when the guests are Scottish vocal harmony group The Bevvy Sisters.

The Bevvy Sisters are one of the hottest new acts on the Scottish music scene. They unite three wonderful female voices with a superb backing line up of guitar and percussion.

The three female voices are Heather MacLeod, Kaela Rowan and Lindsey Black supported by Shooglenifty percussionist James MacIntosh, and by David Donnelly of Salsa Celtica on guitar and mandolin.

The band has won a string of glowing reviews and extensive UK radio play for their debut album, St James Sessions. The album was launched in early 2010 with a sell out show at the world-famous Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow. Recent live highlights for the band include headline appearances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Big Tent Festival, Northern Routes and the Orkney Folk Festival.

The songs of The Bevvy Sisters are a sparkling array of classic original songwriting, vibrant vintage folk and reinvented contemporary covers.

Although relatively new as a band, the three front line vocalists within The Bevvy Sisters combine a vast wealth of experience across diverse musical territories.

Heather MacLeod started out in the nineties Aberdeen blues scene before moving on to work in styles from folk, through world music to jazz, releasing an acclaimed solo album in 2005.

Kaela Rowan grew up immersed in her native highland traditions, going on to tour internationally with Mouth Music as well as recording and performing with Capercailie and Michael McGoldrick.

Lindsey Black from Edinburgh has fronted her own band, Pollen, as well as performing with the Afro / Celtic ten-piece, La Boum.

Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club next Tuesday for what is certain to be a wonderful musical experience to start the new season. The doors at the Links Hotel will be open at 7.30pm with the Bevvy Sisters on stage sharp at 8 pm.
