Prestigious speakers

LEADING international figures from the worlds of art and design will visit Dundee tomorrow (Thursday) to mark the beginning of the 2012 DJCAD Degree Show season.

Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Boyce, legendary satirical cartoonist Gerald Scarfe, fashion designer and artist Helen Storey, Richard Banks (Principal Interaction Designer for Microsoft Research), and Philip Long (Director of the V&A at Dundee), will deliver a series of insightful lectures to students and visitors.

This will be followed by an Associates Reception for invited guests that evening when employers, gallery owners, funding organisations and other industry figures tour Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and meet with some of the UK’s top young artists and designers

A Preview for students, and their families and guests will take place the following evening, before the exhibition opens to the public from Saturday, May 19 to Sunday, May 27.

The times for lectures taking place at the University’s Dalhousie Building as part of the Associates Day on Thursday are: 11am – Martin Boyce; 12pm - Richard Banks; 2pm - Gerald Scarfe; 3pm - Philip Long; 4.30pm – Helen Storey.

Admission to the lectures is free, but tickets are required. They can be obtained by visiting the University online shop www.buyat.dundee.ac.uk/

The 2012 Degree Show will see nearly 300 students from all 11 undergraduate programmes will exhibit the fruits of their labours at the show, which takes place throughout the two buildings and fourteen floors that comprise DJCAD with work from some of the UK’s best artists and designers exhibited in every spare space.
