QUARTET HAS SAX APPEAL
SAX Ecosse will perform a concert at The Retreat, Glenesk on Friday, March 19 at 7 pm.
The award-winning saxophone quartet was formed in 2004 by Lynsey Payne, Andrew Somerville, Karen Dufour and Michelle Melvin, on graduating from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
They were immediately recognised as a significant new talent, winning the academy's Music Governer's Recital Prize for chamber music in 2005 and the Mary D. Adams prize for Chamber Music.
Since then they have gathered acclaim throughout Britain and beyond, recently returning form Slovenia's 14th world Saxophone Congress.
This vibrant group of young musicians is passionate about creating a new saxophone repertoire, so that the four saxophones - soprano, alto, tenor and baritone - brilliantly combine to perform music of many kinds from Baroque to jazz and show music.
The quartet will offer something for everyone with a fabulous programme ranging from Handel's Queen of Sheba to Gershwin's Oh Lady Be Good and Three Preludes, Florio's Quartette for Saxophones, Ravel's Bolero, the first movement of Singelee's Premier Quartour pour Saxophones, plus music from West Side Story and that Jungle Book favourite, The Bare Necessities.
Tickets are 5 for adults and 2 for children with stovies and refreshments included and drinks on sale from the bar.
All enquiries to The Retreat (open on Saturday March 27 for weekends 12 noon to 6 pm) on 01356 648 070.
