Montrose Folk Club will welcome Southern Tenant Folk Union this Friday evening at the Links Hotel, Montrose as they promote their new album.

SOUTHERN Tenant Folk Union are the guests at Montrose Folk Club in the Links Hotel, Mid Links, Montrose, this Friday at 8pm.

Their appearance at the club is outwith the normal sequence of Tuesdays for the Club since the band are visiting Montrose to promote their new album entitled “Pencaitland”. The gig at Montrose is en-route to a concert the following evening at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.

Southern Tenant Folk Union are a seven member Edinburgh-based roots band. Their music is, by turns, a gloriously up-beat and stirringly melancholic mix of Bluegrass, gospel, country, folk and pop.

The members are Christopher Purcell on vocals and guitar, Carrie Thomas on vocals and fiddle, Adam Bulley on vocals and mandolin, Pat McGarvey on vocals and banjo, Jed Milroy on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Marty Camino on double bass and Ewan Macintyre on vocals, guitar and percussion.

The previous and third album of Southern Tenant Folk Union entitled “The New Farming Scene” was released in June 2010 to widespread critical acclaim. In October 2010, Southern Tenant Folk Union were awarded the accolade of “Americana Artist of the Year” at the British Country Music Awards, voted for by journalists at Maverick Magazine. The band has also appeared live on the Loose Ends Show on Radio 4 and on the National RTE TV Show, The View, in Ireland. Next Friday is probably the last opportunity to hear Southern Tenant Folk Union in Angus in an intimate setting such as the Links Hotel, before they move on to bigger venues. The band will be on stage at 8pm, doors at the Links Hotel open at 7.30pm.
