SPRING SEASON CONTINUES AT FOLK CLUB WITH THE MICK WEST BAND

THE spring season at Montrose Folk Club continues in the usual venue of the Link Hotel, Mid Links, Montrose next Tuesday (March 2) with an appearance by The Mick West Band.

The Mick West Band combines one of the best voices in Scotland with two superb musicians.

Performing with virtuosity, imagination and presence, the band has been described as "a must for any fan of Scottish song".

Mick West is considered by many to be the finest singer currently performing on the Scottish folk scene. He was the winner in 2006 of the Scottish Folk Singer of the Year Award at the Annual Scottish Trad Music Awards.

He is equally comfortable with either contemporary or traditional Scottish song. He was also one of the principal contributors to the classic series of "The Songs of Robert Burns" on Linn Records.

The members of the band are Mick West on vocals and guitar, Steve Lawrence on guitar, bouzouki and mando-cello together with Frank McLaughlin on guitar and pipes.

Steve Lawrence is an outstanding musician who toured world-wide with Iron Horse for four years in the Nineties.

He is now a much sought after session musician having played on more than 70 commercial releases as either musician, producer or arranger.

In addition, he has toured with Tannas, Calluna and Donny Munro.

The band is further enhanced by the unique guitar accompaniments and intricate technique of Frank McLaughlin, who is also a member of the Newcastle-based four piece Tod's Assembly.

In December Mick released his most recent CD, which has received considerable airplay as well as very favourable reviews. With his big rich expressive voice, he has been accurately described as a Scottish Christy Moore.

Next Tuesday is certain to be a great night for lovers of quality song and musicianship.

Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club. The Mick West Bank will be on Stage at 8 pm, with the doors at the Links Hotel open at 7.30 pm.
