Sir Watson-Watt is to be a subject of talks at Brechin's Town House Museum

THE FRIENDS of Brechin Town House Museum are already looking ahead to 2013 and will shortly announce the next programme of talks once the speakers details have been confirmed.

The dates are all on a Tuesday, starting at 2 p.m. with free entry and refreshments and will include an illustrated talk about the life and achievements of Sir Robert Watson-Watt, the pioneer of Radar. Talks are currently scheduled for March 12, April 9, May 14 and June 11.

Following the talk about Catherine Hollingworth in September, the Friends have obtained a small quantity of brand new books about her life and work. The first is her autobiography called ‘Building Bridges’ and the second is about her work with the Children’s Theatre in Aberdeen, ‘Another Pied Piper’. Contact the secretary, Steve Nicoll, on 01356 623256 or steveknicoll@fsmail.net for more details.

New chairs should be delivered in time for the first of the talks, after the trial period of replacement chairs was completed. The Friends are providing the funding for up to 40 new chairs that will remain at the Town House Museum and save staff the logistical headache of borrowing chairs for each talk.

Brian Livie has been able to assist an individual who was trying to research his family’s military history. As we approach 2014 and the centenary of the start of the Great War in 1914, Brian would like to hear from anyone who has any information about family members who served during that time.

Any information or request for assistance can be made at the Town House Museum and forwarded to Brian who will contact the individual.

A spokesperson for the group said: “The Chairman and the committee would like to thank the Museum staff and all the members of the public who have supported us throughout 2012. Merry Christmas and we all look forward to seeing you again in 2013.”
