Brechin Acorn Club latest news

Wilma Smith, in the absence of president Jessie Rennie, welcomed members to the latest meeting of the Brechin Acorn Club.

There had been a change of speaker for this afternoon and she was delighted to welcome back Steve Nicoll who had very kindly stepped into ‘the breach’.

Steve’s talk was about Catherine Hollingworth, OBE, and her families, the Inglis and the Mansons.

The history of these two prominent families proved to be most informative and interesting as they appeared to be such a close knit family.

Catherine was born in Brechin, and after she finished her education became Aberdeen’s first teacher of speech.

There followed a most worthy career in speech therapy and children’s theatre.

Pauline Kettlewell gave the vote of thanks and, on behalf of members, thanked Steve for helping the club out.
