Brechin centre shares award for top facility

BRECHIN Leisure Centre has been jointly named as Angus Council leisure facility of the year, the first time the local authority’s accolade has been shared between council premises.

Judi Young, Webster’s Sports Centre, was named as Angus Council indoor sports facilities employee of the year at a ceremony at the Reid Hall in Forfar last Thursday.

Making the awards, director of neighbourhood services Ron Ashton said: “I am delighted to recognise Judi Young as employee of the year in our indoor leisure facilities.

“In Angus, we have some excellent sporting and leisure facilities which cater for all ages and abilities and the hard work and dedication of our staff is of critical importance in making them run smoothly and efficiently.

“I congratulate not only today’s winners, but all the many other employees who contribute to the successful running of our leisure facilities.”

Other awards were to the following members of staff:- Karen Falconer, Arbroath Sports Centre; Anne Tait ,Montrose Sports Centre; Laura Bruce, Saltire Leisure Centre; Thelma D’Orsy, Montrose Swimming Pool; Lesley Hadden, Brechin Leisure Centre; Pamela Stewart, Lochside Leisure Centre; Allan Watson, Forfar Swimming Pool; and Alison MacKenzie, Carnoustie Leisure Centre.

Judi received the award for her outstanding service at Webster’s Sports Centre.

The facility of the year award was made to Lochside Leisure Centre and Brechin Leisure Centre, the first time that a joint award has been made.
