The Brechin group of Contact the Elderly held a dual celebration at Brechin Castle Centre recently, with 12 guests attending.
The group went to the centre for their Christmas meal, and to celebrate Betty Ritchie’s 94th birthday.
A spokesperson for the group said: “The Brechin group of Contact the Elderly had an outing to the Castle Centre for a delicious Christmas lunch thanks to the support they had at their recent coffee morning in Gardner Memorial Church.
“The 12 guests and the volunteer drivers were looked after by Rona from the restaurant and her assistant Wendy, who made sure that everything ran smoothly and certainly provided service with a smile.
“One of the guests, Betty Ritchie, was celebrating her 90th birthday on the day of the lunch. Yvonne, the Castle Centre manager, quickly organized a birthday cake and everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’ with customers joining in a round of applause.”
Contact the Elderly is a charity which provides friendship for over 75s through monthly afternoon teas, for those who live alone and do not have much social contact.
The Brechin group will be eight years old in January and was the first in Angus.
There are groups in Montrose, Forfar and Kirriemuir. There are also hopes to launch groups in Monifieth and Carnoustie.
