The City of Brechin and Community Council gained an extra member when it was unanimously agreed to elect Derek Harper to the group.
Derek has recently returned to Brechin and has already involved himself in a number of group within Brechin, helping to improve the environment and local economy.
Convener of the community council Grahame Lockhart, who proposed Derek, commented: “Derek has already demonstrated his commitment to our community and the community council will be strengthened by his membership.
“Since elected in December 2011, this community council has been very active within Brechin and area co-operating with numerous groups and helping out with the highly successful “In the City” events.
“We have deliberately confined our activities to our own locality rather than events farther afield as there is much to be done and a meeting coming up later in July with Angus Council will see us alongside other groups discussing the ‘Vision for Brechin’.
“Further information will be reported as we progress.”
Members of the group heard how the clean-up of the Public Park will take place on August 17 and that volunteers would be needed to help with the tidy-up.
They also received correspondence from Angus Council regarding the replacement bedding plant programme. More details regarding this will be requested by secretary Eric Gray.
The meeting discussed the applications by Ladbrokes to set up a betting shop in the former Dalhousie Bar to which they had raised objections over and have advised that the Community Council can make representations when the matter reaches the committee.
It was agreed to donate £200 to Brechin Music Fest for printing programmes. Wendy Coutts reported that thing were moving along well and offers of help for the event would be welcome. You can volunteer by going to www.brechinmusicfest.org and emailing organisers directly.
