Edzell Village Improvement Society, it was reported, are to make a picnic area at the Gassy Brae and the Scottish Gas Board have agreed to give £60 towards the cost of making up the access road.

The society has also undertaken the cleaning and repairs to the two War Memorials in the village.

Arbroath is to have another engineering works bringing an initial six more jobs.

The Brechin firm of Petersen, Brown and McGill, founded 11 years ago, plan in June to take over 200 sq. ft. of a new Scottish Development Agency factory being built in Lindsay Street, Arbroath.

Brechin and District Community Council were asked to have a look at the area of ground behind Leicester Building Society office in St David Street which the society has offered to Angus District Council as an area for people to sit in.

The Council have declined the offer but suggest the maintenance could be undertaken as a community effort for the purpose the society thought possible while the Leicester would retain ownership.

Brechin’s charity walker, Bobby Campbell, drove to London on Tuesday and will walk back to raise money in aid of the Malcom Sargent Cancer Fund for Children.

This walking policeman has already made six charity walks but this one - from RAF Weatherfield to Edzell - will be a record mileage for him.

Brechin and District Round Table’s arrangements for this year’s Pageant will see the introduction of a new event in the form of a Junior Highland Games competition. They are also trying to find a number of old pianos to stage a piano smashing competition.

There will also be helicopter rides, parachutists, Highland dancing and a number of other items that are at an early stage of organising.
