A HOST of friends have combined to give three happy Christmas parties for patients who attend the Club in the Geriatric Unit at Stracathro.
Officers’ Wives from the US Base at Edzell were accompanied by Santa Claus when they entertained members early in the December. They were followed by pupils from Brechin High School with a varied programme of song and dance.
At the third party, shortly before Christmas, the concert arranged by Logie Pert WRI was interrupted when Mrs McCallum, representing the Glaxo Good Fellowship Fund from Montrose, arrived to present the Club with a handsome record player.
Later the same afternoon a very welcome “replacement” piano arrived. This has been purchased with part of the proceeds of a sponsored walk by the Student Nurses at Stracathro.

After the generally wet, wild and miserable weather of the past few months Christmas-tide proved unexpectedly mild and even pleasant. Forecasts of a white Christmas proved erroneous and probably the older generation at least were not sorry.
The streets were increasingly busy towards the end of the week with shoppers from town and country and in spite of hard times for many families it seems as if present-giving was to be again on a pretty generous scale.

IF THE amount of Christmas cards handled by the local Scout Group is anything to go by, every mantelpiece in Brechin must be well covered.
The annual Christmas card delivery service once again surpassed all expectations with a grand total of £2,077 raised for Group funds, the sum represents approximately 40,500 cards which were all stamped, sorted and delivered by a small but growing army of parents and leaders.
The time given up by the parents and leaders at this particularly busy time of the year is greatly appreciated by the committee.
