A quiz night will take place next Tuesday, March 13 at the Caledonain Hotel in support of Brechin’s Martin Runcie, who has qualified for the Scottish youth’s international fly-fishing team, which will be competing against English, Welsh and Irish teams at Loch Owel in Ireland.

It was Martin’s first attempt at qualification and is a great achievement for him and for Brechin Angling club.

He gained his Scottish cap competing against the best from all over the Scotland including existing and past members of the Scottish youth team.

Martin will now face many sessions of intensive training with the team as they prepare to compete for Scotland and also to be ambassadors for the country.

Martin has also been busy fund-raising.

It costs in excess of £25,000 to run the squad for a season and he hopes that Brechiners will turn out in force to support him as he represents the nation.

David Robinson will be the quizmaster on the night so all manner of fishy questions are possible.

So don’t skate around, as it will be the sole plaice to be.

The quiz starts at 7.30 pm and costs £12 per team of four.
