From the archives: 30 years ago

Tayside primary schools threatened with closure, one of which is Farnell, are to re-open in August. It had been the intention of the education committee to complete the necessary formalities to close the schools from the start of the summer holiday.

A car treasure hunt on Sunday night raised almost £100 for the local geriatrics fund. Twenty-six cars took part and the treasure hunt was followed by a ceilidh at Jolly’s Hotel. The fund has already provided gifts and outings for local folk at Brechin Infirmary.

The recent RNLI door-to-door collection in Brechin and District raised the sum of £524.77. The Brechin Honorary treasurer and the Ladies Lifeboat Guild are grateful to all who contributed and collected.
