What was described by manager Ian Fleming as “a great team performance with everyone playing his best” gave City, who had shown promising pre-season form, an auspicious start to their League programme. They had a 3-1 win over Clyde with Ian Campbell scoring two of the goals and Doug Malone the third.

Running: More than 220 runners from Tayside are in training for the world’s third largest marathon when up to 150,000 will take to the streets of Glasgow for the Scott’s Porage Marathon on September 10. Five runners from Brechin will take part along with 24, from Forfar, 14 form Arbroath, 10 from Montrose and six from Carnoustie.
