Sergeant-Major Instructor Henry Cowley of Brechin detachments ACF (Angus A Company) received the BEM from the Earl of Dalhousie, Lord Lieutenant of Angus, at a ceremony at Brechin Castle. The citation accompanying the award, made in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, said that S/M Cowley had run the Brechin detachment, single handed for years, instilling in to the boys his own infectious enthusiasm.

Brechin Castle, thanks to the kindness of the Earl and Countess of Dalhousie, who joined the company, was the elegant setting for a fund-raising evening organised by the Angus members Centre of the National Trust for Scotland. A novel and special feature of the evening was a silent auction.
