Staff of the Panmure Hotel went on a Sponsored Slim and raised £400 for ‘Save the Children, East African Appeal’. An auction was held in the Inglis Memorial Hall by a group of Edzell ladies and this raised £837 for the same cause. The cheques were handed over in the Panmure Hotel to Mrs Valerie Smart, a committee member of the Area Appeal Group.

The Santa Special was one of the features at a Coffee Day organised by the Brechin Railway Preservation Society. The Santa Special train ran every 40 minutes and all the children who enjoyed a ride aboard received a small gift from Santa himself. The deadline for the start of steam train service form Brechin to Bridge of Dun and return is now the summer of 1986.
