From the archives: 30 years ago

Ten Acer trees have been planted on Edzell Muir to commemorate the Royal Wedding. The trees have been planted in a horse-shoe shape and should provide some attractive autumn colouring. Edzell Village Improvement Society donated the trees which were purchased from Dalhousie Estates and planted by the District Council.

The need to hold an annual Kirkin’ of the Council was questioned by Councillor Kenneth Hirstwood at Angus general purposes committed. He pointed out that the former town councils held a kirkin’ ceremony because of the annual elections, but that was not the case with the district council. Provost Andrew Welsh answered that it was a custom worth keeping up for the council go annually to public worship.
