Brechin’s new £40,000 fire station is expected to be operational by April 15, Angus Area Fire Joint Committee as told last week. There will be an official opening possibly in May, by the chairman of the Committee, Dean of the Guild, H. G. Morton. It will be an evening ceremony because Brechin firemen have day-time jobs.

Work has begun on the new quarters for enlisted men at the U. S. Navy Base at Edzell. When the block, which is being built near Loch Wee, is complete, the present quarters used by single and unaccompanied men will revert to stores and transit quarters. The new block contains single and double rooms as well as communal recreational accommodation.
